Dear dog owner,
You must be here because you enjoy reading fine print. We aspire to be like you.
In case you didn’t yet know, we’re Doody — a monthly dog poop removal service that keeps your yard — and your to-do list — clean. Our web address is doody.com
What we’re about to tell you is just standard stuff.
It describes how Doody LLC (“us,” “we” or “our”) collect, use, disclose and safeguard your personal information, how we use this information, how this information may be shared, and what choices and rights you have regarding this information.
First of all, when visitors like yourself leave a comment on the Doody website, we collect some data from your comment — your IP address and browser user agent string. It’s only to help us detect spam like we detect dog poo in your yard.
An anonymized string (whatever that is) created from your email address may be provided to something called a Gravatar service. It’s just to make sure your email address is legit. If you feel so inclined to read another privacy policy after ours, you can read Gravatar’s at automattic.com/privacy. Long story short, this is just the standard process to approve your comment. Your profile picture will be visible to the public, so make sure you’re not saying anything embarrassing.
Phew. Okay. Onto media.
If you upload images to Doody’s website, like in a review for example, we suggest not sharing anything with embedded location data (also called EXIF GPS … which sounds a lot like a Mission Impossible movie). If you do upload a photo with embedded location info, anyone who comes to Doody’s website can download and extract any location data from the image.
Next up: cookies.
Don’t be deceived. These are not edible (sadly).
This cookie is like a sticky note. A sick and twisted trick, we know.
When you visit the Doody website, it leaves this invisible sticky note on your computer that says “hey, this person was here.” Our website does that to remember you so you don’t have to login manually every time you want to access your client account. Cookies also watch what you do — not in a creepy trench coat and bowler hat way, but in a way that helps business owners like ourselves track analytics and understand what’s working. These cookies are not dangerous at all. But they do collect information, which is why we’re writing this privacy statement for you.
All that to say, when you leave a comment on Doody’s site, or visit our client login page, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These cookies will last for one year.
One more thing about that login page. When you visit it, our site sets a quick temporary cookie just to check that your browser plays nicely with cookies. It vanishes the second you close your browser and knows absolutely nothing about you. When you actually log in, a couple more cookies show up to keep you logged in. Those last two days — or two weeks if you check “Remember Me.” Log out and they disappear entirely.
Now we want to eat a cookie. But first, embedded content.
Articles on Doody’s site may include embedded content — like videos, images, and articles. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you’ve visited the other website.
So … these websites may also collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content on Doody’s website.
Since we’re on this topic of collecting data, we should probably tell you who we share your data with. If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. And keep in mind: if you leave a comment on Doody’s website, it will live FOREVER (muahahaha). Sorry, we couldn’t resist. But real talk, your comment metadata is retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments instead of holding them in a silly queue.
If you sign up for Doody on our website, we store your personal information in your user profile. You can always see, edit, or delete your personal information at any time (except you cannot change your username … so may we suggest doglover123?). Website admin can also see and edit your information.
So you may be wondering. What data rights do I have?
If you have an account on this site, or have made any comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. That file includes any and all data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Wow, we made it. Thanks for sticking around. If you’ve got questions, our contact info is below. Otherwise, go eat a cookie. You’ve earned it.
